Killeavey Advance in Paul Mc Girr Competition
Tue, 23 Oct 2012
Armagh champions Killeavey and 2010 finalists advanced to the semi-finals of the annual Paul McGirr Competition after a thrilling and action-packed game against Ramor United from Cavan at Dromore.

Ramor got off to a flying start with a deflected goal in the opening minutes from their star forward Ryan Mannion who finished with a personal tally of 1-4. Killeavey responded well and midway through the half had drawn level. However Mannion was proving a handful for the Killeavey defence and after a meandering run found David Grant who fired into the net. Again Killeavy responded and driven on from midfield by Cathal Boylan and Caolan McConville they reduced the lead to one point by half time after a high ball deceived Liam McDermott and dropped into the net (Half Time Ramor 2-4 Killeavey 1=6)

Both sides exchanged scores in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half with Ramor holding a slender lead. At this point Killeavey were reduced to fourteen players and it seemed that Ramor would push on to win the game. However as often happens, the loss of a player inspires the rest of the team and this was certainly the case with Killeavey. They took control of the game and after scores from their most dangerous forward Michael McNamee who converted a penalty, Conor O’Neill and Marc Magennis they led by five points. Ramor finished strongly but the Killeavey defence held firm. Final score Ramor 2-8 Killeavey 2-13

Killeavey now join Slaughtneil and Errigal Ciaran who defeated St Pats Donagh in the semi-finals. The final quarter final is an all Belfast affair with Bredagh from Co Down and St Endas from Co Antrim playing on Sunday 28th October.
